Spanish Businessmen Kidnapper Suspect Arrested

(Tbilisi, June 23, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Georgian State Security Ministry reported today that the law enforcers arrested person suspected in abduction of two Spanish businessmen.

?As a result of the special operation we arrested Alen Borchashvili, 25, which is suspected in organizing kidnapping of four Spanish businessmen. He was detained in Jokolo village of Pankisi gorge. We have found the house where the kidnappers held hostages,? Nika Laliashvili Spokesman for the State Security Ministry said at the news briefing on June 23.

Jose Antonio Treminio and Francisco Rodriguez were abducted on November 30, 2000 in Tbilisi and were held in detention till December 2001 in Pankisi gorge. Kidnappers demanded ransom; however Spanish businessmen said after the release that their relatives paid no ransom.
