Defense Chief Says no Set Back in GTEP Despite Budgetary Shortfall
(Tbilisi, July 10, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Georgian Defense Minister Davit Tevzadze said today that despite extreme lack of finances implementations of the Georgia Train-and-Equip Program will not be hindered.
The Defense Ministry leadership at the meeting today discussed the budgetary shortfall and activity of the ministry in the first half of 2003.
As the Defense Minister reports, six-month funding of the department was only 62%. The debt totals GEL 10 million (approximately USD 5 million).
Further reduction of the defense funding is anticipated in case of cutting country’s budgetary expenditures, as required by the International Monetary Fund.
