United Democrats Demand State Minister Resignation
(Tbilisi, July 10, 2003, Civil Georgia) The opposition United Democrats party demand resignation of the State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze for budgetary shortfall.
“We prepare law suit against the executive government for violating the law on Budget. The State Minister is responsible for the failed budget,” MP Mikheil Machavariani of the United Democrats said at the news briefing today.
The United Democrats Parliamentary faction will vote against the cutting of the budgetary expenditures, as required by the International Monetary Fund.
Another opposition party the New Rights also demanded on July 9 resignation of the government for the failed budget.
According to the Georgian Treasury Department budgetary shortfall reached 87 million Lari (approximately USD 41 million) in the first half of the 2003.
