Kidnapper Suspects Arrested

(Tbilisi, July 14, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Georgian police detained 6 persons suspected of kidnapping of the daughter of Georgian businessman Mukhran Bagrationi on July 12.

“Out of 6 detainees one person, Alan Dzigoev, is former chief of Special Service of breakaway South Ossetia,” Georgian Interior Minister Koba Narchemashvili said at a press conference today.

He said the kidnapper suspects were detained in various cities of Georgia.

“The operation was successful. Nobody was injured,” Koba Narchemashvili said.

The police seized up to USD 25 000 during the operation. However, Narchemashvili has no information exactly what sum was paid by Bagrationi as a ransom.
