Tbilisi Unable to Confirm Set up of Mobile Phone Communication in Sukhumi
(Tbilisi, July 23, 2003, Civil Georgia) – The Georgian National Commission for Communications cannot confirm the report on installing an antenna for mobile phone communication in breakaway Abkhazia.
Georgian media sources reported on July 22 that the Russian company installed the antenna in the breakaway Abkhaz capital Sukhumi.
“We have contacted the relevant official agencies of Russia, which did not confirm the report either. We have no information about the Russian company, which had rendered support to the Abkhaz side,” Public Relations Coordinator of the Com!
mission Giorgi Ratishvili told Civil Georgia.
He said that no company has right to provide Abkhazia with the communication systems without informing the Georgian National Commission for Communications.
