Flood Hits Mountainous Region in Western Georgia

(Tbilisi, August 7, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Severe rains, which lasted for at least one week, caused flood in the Racha high mountainous region in western Georgia.

As a result of the flood, 15 villages of the Oni and Lentekhi districts remain without electricity and drinking water.

The rivers have flooded a major highway of the region. The floods, after heavy rain, swept away bridges.

Under the order of the President of Georgia, a governmental commission has been set!
up to assess the damage.
