(Tbilisi, August 18, 2003, Civil Georgia) – The failure of the high voltage power line, Kolkheti, blacked out most of the Georgian regions, including the capital city of Tbilisi on August 18.
“According to preliminary information, the power line is damaged in Tsalenjikha [western Georgia] and the reason for its damage is a gunshot,” Nino Sturua, spokesperson for the Georgian Energy Ministry, told Civil Georgia.
The Kolkheti power line supplies Georgia with electricity from the Enguri hydro power plant, located in the Abkhazian conflict zone.
As a result of the electricity shortage, the capital!
city is also deprived of drinking water.
