MPs Amend Tax Code, Reject Mobile Phone Tax Increase
(Tbilisi, August 27, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Parliament adopted on August 26 amendments to the tax code, which were proposed by the government. The amendments aim at increasing budgetary revenues.
The amendments envisage an additional 50 Lari (up to USD 40) for every square meter of space bought in newly constructed apartment buildings.
However MPs rejected the proposal of the Finance Ministry to increase the tax on mobile phone communication.
Parliament also adopted on August 26 the government’s controversial proposal to create a special unit at the Finance Ministry to fight agains!
t smuggling.
