(Tbilisi, September 1, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Nana Devdariani, the newly appointed Chairperson of the Central Election Commission, dismissed the opposition parties’ fears that she will be the presidential-backed election bloc’s ally.
Nana Devdariani was one of the leaders of the Socialist Party from 1999-2000 and a Member of Parliament. Now the Socialist Party is in the presidential-backed election alliance.
“No one should hope that I will make decisions in favor of certain political parties. I hope to manage fair and democratic elections,̶!

Public Defender Nana Devdariani was among three candidates submitted to the President for approval by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Council of Europe (CoE). MP Vakhtang Khmaladze and Davit Usupashvili were the other two candidates being considered for the CEC chairmanship post.
