Referendum on Reduction of Number of MPs to be Held

(Tbilisi, September 4, 2003, Civil Georgia) – President Shevardnadze signed on September 3 a decree on holding a referendum over a reduction of the number of MPs.

Under the decree, voters will be offered to vote for a reduction of the number of MPs from 235 to 150.

The referendum will be held simultaneously with the parliamentary elections on November 2.

If approved, the new Parliament will consider the relevant amendments to be added to the Constitution of Georgia.
