Burjanadze Says Government Obstructs Opposition
Nino Burjanadze, the Parliamentary Chairperson and the leader of the Burjanadze-Democrats election bloc, accused the presidential-backed election bloc For New Georgia of deliberate hampering the opposition’s election campaign in the regions.
“Instead of launching its own pre-election campaign, the presidential-backed election bloc interferes with the activities of other parties and blocs,” Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze said at the news briefing on September 22.
Burjanadze also said that the authorities put pressure on the employees of the governmental structures to vote for the presidential-backed election bloc.
The opposition claims that the “discredited government” will use “administrative leverages” to succeed in the elections.
On September 19 another leader of the Burjanadze-Democrats election bloc Zurab Zhvania said that the police would be on high alert on the election day, thus the policemen would vote at the special polling stations, under the supervision of the high-rank police officials.
