Georgia Commemorates Abkhaz War Victims

The Georgian leadership, political parties and movements are today commemorating victims of armed conflict in Abkhazia.

On September 27, 1993 Georgian troops were ousted from breakaway Abkhaz capital Sukhumi and on September 30 Abkhazia announced independence, which is not internationally recognized. September 27th is the Day of Hope and Commemoration in Georgia.

The authorities and each leading political party organized today separate ceremonies of commemoration.

On the initiative of the National Movement opposition party the memorial plaque was opened in Tbilisi.

Another opposition the Burjanadze-Democrats election bloc, as well as the Revival Union, held a meeting with the internally displaced persons from Abkhazia.
