Azerbaijan to Supply Georgia with Gas
President Shevardnadze said today that Georgia will receive 200-300 million cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan this winter.
This amount of gas will be enough for Tbilisi only for one month. At the moment Russia is the only supplier of gas to Georgia.
Eduard Shevardnadze also said in his radiobroadcast on September 29 that he and Giorgi Chanturia, the president of the Georgian International Oil Corporation, met with the British Petroleum representatives this week to discuss the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzerum gas pipeline project.
“Successful implementation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline project has accelerated the launch of another important Shah-Deniz gas pipeline project. These two projects will secure energy independence of the country,” Shevardnadze said.
