Gazprom Says Shah-Deniz Project is Long-Term Perspective

?Gazprom can supply Georgia with natural gas without any problems,? Deputy Chairman of Russian energy giant Gazprom Alexei Ryazanov said today while commenting on the statement of Georgian President Shevardnadze about the prospects of cooperation with Azerbaijan over gas supplies.

He said the Russian company would start gas supplies to Georgia from mid October.

?We will supply 300 million cubic meters of gas for Tbilisi [per month] and the same amount for the power facilities owned by the Russian Unified Energy Systems in Georgia,? Ryazanov stated.

In his opinion, gas supplies from the Azeri field of Shah-Deniz are a long-term perspective.

In his today?s radio broadcast President Shevardnadze hailed the launch of implementation of the Shah-Deniz project and said that Georgia would receive 200-300 million cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan this winter.

At the moment Russia is the only supplier of gas to Georgia.
