Official Watchdog Agency Concerned over Misuse of Budgetary Funds

Chairman of the Chamber of Control Sulkhan Molashvili, while speaking at a government session on October 15, raised concern over misuse of budgetary funds for the election campaigning by the political parties.

“The critical remarks are addressed to both opposition and pro-governmental parties. It is inadmissible, when the communal expenditures are used for pre-election purposes, while the salaries and pensions are not paid,” Sulkhan Molashvili said in the interview to the Rustavi 2 independent TV company on October 15.

He also slammed the Tbilisi City Council, which according to Molashvili, spent several thousands of Lari on flags, hinting on the opposition National Movement party, whose flag is hanging on the City Council. Leader of the National Movement Mikheil Saakashvili is the Chairman of the City Council.

Earlier today President Shevardnadze demanded the government members to ensure distribution of salaries and pensions, saying that it would be the best election campaign.

“Everybody is talking that there are no pensions and salaries. We must do everything to provide people with the pensions and salaries,” Shevardnadze said at the government session on October 15.
