OSCE Chairman to Discuss Elections During Visit to Georgia

The Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE, Netherlands Foreign Minister Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, will arrive today in Tbilisi from Armenian capital Yerevan.

According to the OSCE preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections, scheduled for November 2 will be discussed during Jaap de Hoop Scheffer’s visit in Georgia.

During his visit to the south Caucasian countries the Chairman-in-Office will discuss various OSCE activities in the region, with a view to the upcoming Ministerial meeting in Maastricht on 1 and 2 December and taking into consideration the priorities of the Netherlands Chairmanship such as countering terrorism and the fight against trafficking in human beings.

The Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE will leave for Azeri capital Baku on October 22. In all three countries, Minister de Hoop Scheffer will be meeting the highest authorities of the country as well as NGOs and other representatives of civil society.
