Shevardnadze Blames Old CEC, Opposition for Mess in Voter Lists
President Shevardnadze accused the previous Central Election Commission (CEC) and opposition parties of inaccurate voter lists, adding that they needed inaccurate voter lists “for post-election provocations.”
“The Interior Ministry has made accurate voter lists, which were delivered to the CEC. Who is guilty and who will assume responsibility now? The law-enforcement agencies should investigate this case. It seems that someone wants to use this issue for provocation and destabilization after the elections. However, I declare – it will not happen,” Shevardnadze said in his radio broadcast on October 20.
He said the law and order would be secured during the elections. The President called on the voters to be more active and protect their constitutional right.
Last week Interior Minister Koba Narchemashvili also accused previous CEC and opposition parties of inaccurate voter lists.
