President, U.S. NATO Committee Chief Discussed Cooperation

President Eduard Shevardnadze met President of the U.S. Committee on NATO Bruce Jackson on October 28 to discuss Georgia’s cooperation with NATO.

Bruce Jackson hailed Georgia’s activities to implement strategic tasks which aim at NATO membership.

He also said that Georgia’s integration into the alliance would greatly depend on fairness of the parliamentary elections to be held on November 2.

Bruce Jackson said the NATO summit would be held in Istanbul next June to discuss the prospects of alliance’s relations with South Caucasus.

“We understand that in order to become a NATO member, we should meet the NATO standards and requirements. We should do our utmost to join the NATO,” President Shevardnadze stated.
