Opposition: Shevardnadze Responsible for Ballot Fraud
The opposition political parties continue to mount pressure on the government. Meeting with their supporters today, opposition leaders reiterated their determination to prevent what they see as a mass ballot fraud orchestrated by the government. The leaders decided to leave for the provinces of Georgia and spearhead the protests there. The rally in Tbilisi is scheduled to continue at 7 p.m. at the Tbilisi Municipality.
Parliamentary Chairperson and leader of the Burjanadze-Democrats election bloc Nino Burjanadze called on the authorities today “to grow reasonable and prevent the fraud.”
“The President and the executive authorities should assume the responsibility for everythingthat is happening in the country now. The President should assume the responsibility for the hard living conditions of our people. We will not yield to pressure; We will not conform to rigging of our supporters’ votes. We call on the authorities to grow reasonable. Otherwise, our rebuke will be rather serious. We will fight for the happiness of our people,” Nino Burjanadze said at the meeting with supporters on November 5 .
Leader of the National Movement Mikheil Saakashvili said his demand remains in force, and he calls for President’s urgent resignation.
Leader of the Burjanadze-Democrats Zurab Zhvania said their work in the new Parliament will start with reshuffling of the present government and dismantling of Shevardnadze’s regime.
The leaders of the opposition parties thanked the participants of the meeting for support and called on them to continue the struggle for protecting their votes.
