Pro-Presidential Bloc Members Threaten to Split with Shevardnadze
Vakhtang Rcheulishvili of the pro-presidential election bloc For New Georgia called on the President Shevardnadze “not to compromise with the opposition.”
“Saakashvili, Burjanadze and Zhvania [leaders of the National Movement and the Burjanadze-Democrats] know that they will fail to come to power. Therefore, they started protest rallies to make the authorities to compromise. If the President compromises now, our ways will separate,” Rcheulishvili said while commenting a two-day long mass protest rally organized by the opposition parties protesting against the manipulation of election results.
Earlier today Spokesperson of the pro-presidential election bloc Irina Sarishvili-Chanturia also said she is ready to leave the bloc in case the government yields “to opposition’s pressure.”
