Shevardnadze, Putin Discussed Developments in Georgia
President Eduard Shevardnadze held a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin this evening to discuss recent developments in Georgia after November 2 parliamentary elections.
After the talks Georgian President’s spokesman Kakha Imnadze told reporters that the conversation was held at the initiative of the Russian President. “Mr. Putin told the Georgian President that he hopes Shevardnadze would deal with current problems,” Kakha Imnadze said.
On the wake of the phone conversation with Vladimir Putin, Georgian President met with the Russian ambassador in Georgia Vladimir Chkhikvishvili.
“Destabilization of situation in Georgia would have a negative impact on entire region. Everything should be done to overcome this crisis by peaceful means and through negotiations,” Russian ambassador told reporters after the meeting with the Georgian President.
