U.S. Envoy Discussed Current Developments with Security Chief

U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Richard Miles met the Secretary of the Georgian National Security Council Tedo Japaridze today.

After the meeting Ambassador Miles said that the United States considers the current developments is Georgia’s internal affairs and the Georgian authorities should solve the problem.

He said the people have the right to hold a peaceful manifestation, while commenting on the protest rally in Tbilisi, which demands President Shevardnadze’s resignation.

Ambassador Miles said the U.S. Department of States has already expressed concern about the problems with the voter list and argued “the Central Election Commission should do everything possible to correct election day errors now, during tabulation of votes, by throwing out egregious cases of fraud.”
