Shevardnadze’s Party Member Offers Compromise

Vakhtang Rcheulishvili, leader of the Socialists Party and the member of pr-presidential bloc For New Georgia said today that the authorities should recognize National Movement opposition party’s victory in the November 2 parliamentary elections.

“That would be the only way out of the current political crisis in the country,” Rcheulishvili told reporters.

He said that the National Movement should sue the electoral commissions over several disputed polling stations.

“I am sure the court will rule positively on National Movement’s appeal and cancel election results, for example, in several precincts in Kvemo Kartli. The governmental bloc should not appeal the court’s decisions in order to let the National Movement take the first place in the election results,” Rcheulishvili explained.

Rcheulishvili also supposed that head of Adjara Autonomous Republic Aslan Abashidze, who also leads the Revival Union, will not be against of this compromise.

With more than 95% of votes counted the For New Georgia bloc leads the poll with 20,5%, followed by the Revival Union with 18,7%. Mikheil Saakashvili’s National Movement is on the third place with 18%.
