U.S. Official Met Burjanadze, Zhvania
Lynn Pascoe, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs of the U.S. Department of State met with the opposition leaders Zurab Zhvania and Nino Burjanadze, Chairperson of the outgoing Parliament, today.
After the meeting Zurab Zhvania and Nino Burjanadze, who demand Shevardnadze’s resignation and holding of the repeat parliamentary elections told reporters that the current political crisis in Georgia was discussed during the talks.
“The U.S. is interested to assist Georgia in overcoming this crisis peacefully,” Nino Burjanadze said.
Lynn Pascoe will also meet another leader of the opposition Mikheil Saakashvili, as well as the leader of the Labor Party Shalva Natelashvili today.
This evening U.S. official will hold talks with President Shevardnadze. It is anticipated that Lynn Pascoe will comment on situation in Georgia after the meeting with the President.
