President Convenes Parliament’s First Session

According to the decree issued by President Shevardnadze this evening, the first session of the new Parliament will be convened on November 22.

According to the election results, announced by the Central Election Commission on November 20, Shevardnadze’s party For New Georgia and his ally Aslan Abashidze’s Revival Union lead the polls.

The National Movement and the Burjanadze-Democrats opposition parties boycott the new Parliament and staged a peaceful march on capital Tbilisi this evening to demand Shevardnadze’s resignation.
