Shevardnadze did not Name His Favorite Presidential Candidate

Ex-President of Georgia Eduard Shevardnadze refrained from naming a person he would prefer to see on the post of the President.

Nino Burjanadze, the Interim President and Mikheil Saakashvili, who led the street protesters to force Shevardnadze to resign, are the main possible candidates for the post.

“They know each other better than I do. They should agree on this issue among each other and propose the most acceptable candidate,” Shevardnadze said on November 26 after packing his personal belongings from the State Chancellery, the President’s office, which is now occupied by the interim president.

Shevardnadze told the he is not happy with leaving the State Chancellery. “I worked here for 13 years during the Soviet period, and I was working here for past 11 years,” Shevardnadze said.

Shevardnadze also said that he wants to write an article under the headline “Why Shevardnadze Resigned.”
