Burjanadze’s Power Increases, as More Officials File Resignation

Interim President Nino Burjanadze said on November 25 that the country cannot live without state and finance ministers, as well as other high-rank officials more than a month, before the presidential elections.

ā€œI will propose the new candidates for the vacant posts and I think these persons will be acceptable for both the population of Georgia and the international community,ā€ Nino Burjanadze said on November 25.

Nino Burjanadze did not rule out that she will propose Zurab Zhvania’s candidacy for the State Minister’s post.

Interior, Finance and State Ministers have already filed resignation after Eduard Shevardnadze stepped down.

Governors of Kvemo Kartli, Imereti, Guria, Kakheti and Samtskhe-Javakheti regions, as well as chief of Georgian railway Akaki Chkhaidze also resigned. All these officials were a powerful foothold for the previous authorities.
