Powell Called on OSCE to Support Georgia
Colin Powell, the U.S. Secretary of State said, while addressing the OSCE Ministerial Council on December 2, ?the international community should do everything possible to support Georgia’s territorial integrity throughout and beyond the elections.?
?No support should be given to breakaway elements seeking to weaken the territorial integrity of Georgia,? AFP reports quoting Colin Powell.
On December 1 Georgian Interim President Nino Burjanadze said today, while addressing OSCE Ministerial Council in Maastricht, that Russia undermines Georgia?s sovereignty and territorial integrity with its unilateral moves.
Georgia?s new leader was referring to the last week?s talks in Moscow, when Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov met with de facto Prime Minister of Georgia?s breakaway region Abkhazia and de facto President of Georgia?s another secessionist region South Ossetia.
Today Colin Powell met with Nino Burjanadze and called the Georgian authorities for ensuring free and fair elections.
Nino Burjanadze left for Brussels after the meeting with Colin Powell to hold talks with EU?s foreign policy chief Javier Solana.
