Rumsfeld to Visit Georgia
U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld is expected to visit Georgia on December 5.
According to the U.S. Embassy to Georgia, Donald Rumsfeld will hold talks with Georgian Interim President Nino Burjanadze, State Minister Zurab Zhvania and presidential candidate Mikheil Saakashvili.
Donald Rumsfeld will also visit the Krtsanisi training field, where the U.S. military instructors train Georgian troops in the frames of the U.S.-funded Trains-and-Equip program (GTEP).
The U.S. interagency team has already arrived in Tbilisi on December 3 and is holding talks with the Georgian authorities to review assistance, which the U.S. will provide for the country?s new leadership.
Donald Rumsfeld visited Georgia in December 2001 as well. The visit was followed with the launch of the GTEP, in which the United States allocated USD 64 million.
