Abashidze Appoints New Interior Minister

Aslan Abashidze appointed on December 11 former chairman of the Revival Union’s parliamentary faction Jemal Gogitidze as Adjara Autonomous Republic’s Interior Minister.

Georgian Interior Minister Giorgi Baramidze refrained from commenting the issue, adding that the leadership of the autonomous republic never coordinates its staff policy with the central authorities.  

Jemal Gogitidze is one of the closest allies of Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze.

Ilia Tsulukidze, who previously held the Adjarian Interior Minister’s post, was appointed as the Autonomous Republic’s Security Council Secretary.
