Giorgadze out of the Presidential Race

The Central Election Commission (CEC) today rejected to register Igor Giorgadze, Georgia’s ex-security chief, as a presidential candidate.

According to the Interior Ministry Giorgadze has not lived in Georgia for last two years, necessary for registration as presidential candidate.

The CEC refused Igor Giorgadze in registration as MP candidate for the November 2 parliamentary elections as well, for the same reason.

Igor Giorgadze fled the country as he was charged with terrorist attack against Eduard Shevardnadze in 1995.

The Central Election Commission will pass the decision on the remaining 6 presidential candidates until December 17.
