Opposition Activist Reportedly Kidnapped in Adjara

Levan Kacharava activist of the Civil Society Committee, which has recently launched collection of signatures in Adjara Autonomous Republic demanding from the local authorities not to boycott January 4 presidential elections, was reportedly kidnapped this morning in Batumi, the Adjarian capital.

“Several unknown men forced him [Levan Kacharava] into the car. We are trying to get information about his whereabouts,” Tea Jgarkava, an activists of the committee told Civil Georgia.

The Committee says that head of Adjara Autonomous Republic Aslan Abashidze is personally responsible for the incident.

The Civil Society Committee has been set up recently in Adjara by the students and representatives of the intellectual groups and aims at promotion of civil society values in the Autonomous Republic.
