Georgians Go to the Polls to Elect President

The polling stations opened at 8 am on January 4 to hold snap presidential elections.

The polling stations were opened this morning in Adjara Autonomous Republic as well.

Five presidential candidates are standing for Sunday’s elections – Mikheil Saakashvili, Temur Shashiashvili, Zaza Sikharulidze, Roin Liparteliani and Kartlos Gharibashvili.

Mikheil Saakashvili, key figure in November velvet revolution and the leader of National Movement party is widely expected to win the elections.

Around 450 observers from the OSCE, as well as local and CIS observers will monitor the elections throughout Georgia.
