With Most of the Votes Counted Saakashvili’s Victory Beyond Doubt

According to the Central Election Commission, with almost 80% of votes counted, Mikheil Saakashvili received 96,8% of support in Sunday’s snap presidential elections. 

Temur Shashiashvili, who was a governor of Imereti region in Shevardnadze’s government, could secure 2,09% of votes. Roin Liparteliani – 0,25%, Kartlos Garibashvili 0,2%, Zurab Kelekhsashvili 0,1% and Zaza Sikharulidze – 0,23%. 0,29% voted against all the candidates. 

The data from 10 election districts, including from Adjara Autonomous Republic, are to be delivered to the Central Election Commission.

The voting in Kodori gorge, which is the only part of breakaway Abkhazia under the Georgia’s control, is postponed until January 12, due to heavy weather conditions.
