Five-cross Flags Erected in Adjara

Georgia’s new state flag approved by the Parliament on January 14, 2004 was today erected in several regions of Adjara Autonomous Republic on initiative of the public movement Our Adjara.

The Adjarian authorities did not oppose hanging of the new flags. Adjarian Interior Minister Jemal Gogitidze said recently, that the regional administration would not oppose hanging of the state flag in Adjara Autonomous Republic.

Around hundred residents of the Gonio village in Adjara Autonomous Republic held a protest rally in the village on January 11 demanding cancellation of the state of emergency in the region.

After the protesters hanged the flags of the National Movement party, which later became Georgia’s national flag, the rally was attacked by unknown persons, who disbanded the protesters.
