Powell: U.S. Concerned over Russian Policy towards Neighbors
U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell says in his front-page article published by the Russian daily Izvestia on January 26 that the United States is concerned over Russia’s dealings with its neighbors.
Powell notes that certain aspects of Russia’s policy towards the countries, “that emerged from the former Soviet Union, have concerned us.”
Colin Powell holds talks with Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov in Moscow on January 26. He arrived in Moscow from Georgian capital Tbilisi, where he attended the inauguration of Georgia’s new President.
He said in Tbilisi that he intends to “reinforce to [his] Russian colleagues that we expect Moscow to abide by the Istanbul commitments of 1999” and pull out its troops from Georgia.
