Pro and Against Abashidze Rallies Held in Batumi

Supporters and opposition of the Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze are holding two separate rallies in the Adjarian capital Batumi.

The rally of the Abashidze’s opposition followed the visit of Mikheil Saakashvili to Batumi this morning, where he attended the military parade and held short meeting with Aslan Abashidze.

In the wake of launch of anti-Abashidze rally, the Adjarian leader also convened supporters in Batumi.

The public movement Our Adjara, which is in the opposition to the Adjarian authorities, called the supporters to cease protesting in order to avoid tensions on the presidential inauguration day, however the rally continues so far.

Minor clashes between the supporters of Abashidze and the opposition were reported this morning.
