Zhvania Outlines Cabinet Priorities

Nominee for the Prime Minister’s post Zurab Zhvania is addressing the Parliament to deliver the new cabinet’s plan of action for 2004-2009.

Zurab Zhvania, who is the State Minister at the moment, will also present the cabinet members to the Parliament for approval.

“Structural reforms of the government, reforms in the law enforcement agencies, as well as in the security structures of the country; fight against corruption; economic growth; social welfare of citizens; addressing energy problems and foreign policy priorities – these would be the main topics of the cabinet’s program, which I intend to deliver,” Zurab Zhvania told the lawmakers at the start of his speech.

Zhvania also said that each member of his government would carry out fundamental reforms in the sphere the particular minister is in charge of. “Every sector of governance needs reforms,” he added.

He also stressed the importance of establishment of the full-scale self-governance system in the country.

Zhvania also said that the top priority of the government would be restoration of the territorial integrity.


“We do not threaten anyone, but in order to hold successful peaceful talks we will need strong defense structures,” nominee for the Prime Minister’s post said.
