President Wants to Disband Adjarian Security Ministry
President Saakashvili told reporters on March 5 that there is “no need for two security ministries in one country,” referring to the Security Ministry of the Adjara Autonomous Republic.
The President said that he has asked the Parliament to discuss cancellation of the Adjarian Security Ministry.
“There is one constitution in Georgia, one nation and one security agency,” Mikheil Saakashvili added.
Tensions between Adjarian Autonomous Republic and Georgia’s central authorities have escalated as Saakashvili vowed “to take control over Adjara.”
Earlier, while visiting Russian capital Moscow, Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze expressed concerns that the central authorities seek “total control” of the Autonomous Republic.
