CEC Chief Casts Doubts over Free Elections in Adjara

Chairman of the Central Election Commission Zurab Tchiaberashvili told reporters on March 16, “the voters will be deprived of right to freely cast ballot in Adjara if the current situation is maintained by March 28.”

“There are armed groups moving in Adjara, attacks on election observers have been reported in Adjara. In these circumstances I have a doubt that the voters in Adjara will be given a possibility to make free choice on March 28 parliamentary elections,” Zurab Tchiaberashvili said.

He said that issue of possible postponement of the elections “is not on the agenda.”
