Ex-Tax Chief under Arrest

Former chief of the Tax Department Iase Zautashvili, who was wanted for misuse of office, surrendered to the police on March 30 and is in custody at the moment.

General Prosecutor Irakli Okruashvili said on March 31, the prosecutor’s office will take into account Zautashvili’s readiness to cooperate with the law enforcers and might mitigate punishment in case his guilt is proved. 

Along with Iase Zautashvili, the General Prosecutor’s Office has brought criminal charges against chief of the Customs Department Levan Kistauri, who was arrested on March 23 after he was sacked from his post. Levan Kistauri also is accused of misuse of power.
