Saakashvili, Scheffer Discussed Georgia’s NATO Prospects

President Saakashvili visited NATO Headquarters in Brussels on April 7 and met with Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and attended the North Atlantic Council Meeting.

“We have presented to NATO Georgia’s individual partnership action plan, which is a second major step towards Georgia’s integration to the NATO. The first step made when Georgia made official bid for NATO membership, after Georgia’s official bid for NATO membership in 2002,” President Saakashvili said after talks with the Secretary General of NATO.

The plan establishes specific defense reform goals that NATO will assist Georgia to implement.

President Saakashvili also said that Georgia is determined to become member of the alliance. “We have already started strengthening and reforming of our armed forces,” the Georgian President added.
