Georgia Seeks for Lifting Visa Regime with Russia
Visiting Georgian Interior Minister Giorgi Baramidze said on April 7 in Moscow, “Russia and Georgia face no obstacles for cancellation of visa regime between the two countries”, which was imposed in 2002.
“Russia has no reason to preserve the visa requirements with Georgia. The visa regime was imposed by Russia as a sign of discontent towards insufficient measures carried out by the Georgia’s previous authorities to combat terrorism. Now, these obstacles have been removed,” the Interior Minister said adding that Moscow and Tbilisi are jointly fighting against terrorism.
Giorgi Baramidze said that Georgia and Russia have entered a new area of strategic relations and partnership and are ready for cooperation in fighting terrorism.
In late March Russian President Vladimir Putin did not rule out the possibility of cancellation of visa regime between Russia and Georgia.
