More Officers Refuse to Obey Renegade Commander
16 more officers of the Batumi-based 25th Brigade defied the orders of mutineer Maj. Gen. Roman Dumbadze and arrived in Tbilisi on April 21.
Earlier on April 20 seventeen officers of the 25th Brigade left for Tbilisi, where the president thanked them for remaining loyal.
Maj. Gen. Roman Dumbadze, who was dismissed as a commander of the 25th Armored-Mechanized Brigade, is accused of treason. The Supreme Court of Georgia has already issued arrest warrant for him.
Viktor Mikeladze, the appointed commander of the 25th Brigade to replace Dumbadze, says around 11 officers and 100 soldiers remain in the 25th Brigade. Viktor Mikeladze is in Tbilisi at the moment as he can not fulfill duties in the 25th Brigade.
Chief of Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces Givi Iukuridze said at a news briefing on April 21 that the Defense Ministry will set up 25th Brigade, which will be temporarily based in Tbilisi on the bases of those officers and soldiers, who refused to obey mutineer commander.
“Approximately 10 officers still remain in Batumi at 25th Brigade, but be sure they are just in a queue for train tickets to joints us in Tbilisi,” Givi Iukuridze told reporters.
