MP Credentials of Tbilisi-Based Abkhaz Authorities Questionable

The Parliament postponed confirming credentials of MPs representing Tbilisi-based Abkhaz authorities.

“The Parliament should discuss a legal status of Abkhazian MPs at first. The Parliament will discuss issue of their credentials after their legal status is defined,” MP Levan Bezhashvili, who chairs temporarily set up commission for legal issues, said at the Parliament’s inaugural session on April 22.

There are 12 holdover members of the Parliament representing Abkhazia. They were elected in the single mandate constituencies of Abkhazia before the secessionist region broke away from Georgia in early 90s. The MP credentials of deputies representing Abkhazia were prolonged by the Parliament up to now.
