Credentials of 217 MPs Confirmed

The Parliament of Georgia confirmed credentials of 217 MPs out of 235 at its inaugural session on April 22.
 
The Parliament rejected to confirm credentials of those 4 MPs who did not underwent drug test. Two of them are MPs elected in Adjarian single mandate constituencies – Jemal Gogitidze, Adjarian Interior Minister and Rostom Japaridze, Prime Minister of Adjarian Autonomy.


According to the election code of Georgia, each MP has to undergo drug test. MP Malkhaz Sherazadishvili, who was a chairman of the defense and security committee of the previous Parliament, will have to undergo repeat drug test.
 
The Parliament also did not confirm credentials of MP Bondo Shalikiani, who is in custody at the moment and faces illegal procession of arms charges.


The Parliament postponed confirming credentials of MPs representing Tbilisi-based Abkhaz authorities. There are 12 holdover members of the Parliament representing Abkhazia.
