Coast Guard Holds Exercises

Six coastguard vessels participate in the exercises in western Georgian town of Poti at Black Sea coast on April 28.

According to the exercises’ scenario, Georgian coastguard service has to seize vessels illegally navigating in the Georgian territorial waters.

Coastguard vessels will also participate in a large-scale military exercises in Poti, which will take place on April 30-May 2. Around 1,500 servicemen of the Georgian armed forces, battle tanks and air forces will be involved in the exercises Dioscuria – 2004.

Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze has already expressed concerns regarding the military exercises in Poti, which is some 30 km away from the Adjara Autonomous Republic. 

However, Chief of Staff of Georgian Armed Forces Givi Iukuridze said that these are the scheduled military exercises and has nothing common with the recent developments in Adjara.
