Russian Security Chief Meets Abashidze in Batumi

Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Ivanov arrived in Adjarian capital Batumi late on May 5 and holds talks with Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze.

Georgian central government hopes Ivanov will convince Abashidze to resign.

Earlier on May 5 President Saakashvili told reporters that during his phone talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 5 he urged the Russian side to grant Aslan Abashidze political asylum to Aslan Abashidze.
