Georgia Hopes Romania to Assist in European Integration

Georgia has a “real chance” to join NATO, Romanian President Ion Iliescu said in Bucharest after meeting his Georgian counterpart Mikhail Saakashvili on May 14.

While, Mikheil Saakashvili said that Romania, which joined the NATO in March, will facilitate Georgia’s integration into Euro-Atlantic structures.


“Georgia should be able to quickly assimilate Euro-Atlantic values in order to become a candidate with a real chance to join NATO,” AFP reported quoting Romanian President Ion Iliescu said. He added that Georgia was “a model of democracy in the Caucasus.”


The two presidents signed several agreements for their countries to work together in fighting terrorism, organized crime and drugs.
