Georgia to Send More Troops to Iraq
President Saakashvili said that Georgia will triple number of its troops in Iraq, in a bid to boost further cooperation with the Unites States in fighting terrorism.
“Our servicemen are successfully participating in the peacekeeping operations in Iraq. In the near future Georgia’s military presence in Iraq will increase by three times,” the President said in his speech at the military parade in Tbilisi, marking Georgia’s Independence Day.
Georgia has already increased its military presence in Iraq in early April from 70 to 159 soldiers. 156 more servicemen will arrive in Iraq in June.
